Original German WWII Waffen SS in the West Paperback Photo Book dated 1941 - Waffen ᛋᛋ im Westen

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nice worn example of the rare German WWII Waffen SS Photo book, Waffen ᛋᛋ im Westen. Published in 1941 by the NSDAP, the bears the following subtext on the title page:

Ein Bericht in Bildern
von Kriegsberichter Friedrich Zschäckel
ᛋᛋ-PK

This translates to "A report in pictures by war reporter Friedrich Zschäckel ᛋᛋ-PK". THe book is almost entirely pictures, with short captions, and is approximately 140 pages long. It definitely shows wear, and it looks like it is paperback with some type of glued on slip cover, which has mostly detached from the cardboard cover. It measures approximately 7 1/2"W x 10 1/2"H. Books like this were printed en masse during the war to help raise war funds, as well as to help increase the mystique surrounding the mythical "Waffen SS".

A great piece of WWII early NSDAP memorabilia and propaganda, ready to research and display!

The SS (Schutzstaffel - 'Protection Squadron') was originally formed in 1925, ostensibly to act as a small, loyal bodyguard unit to protect the Führer, Adolf H. Under the direction of the Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, the SS grew to be the most ruthless and feared organization of the 20th century. They were the vanguard of NSDAP and eventually controlled nearly every function of German life and much of Occupied Europe.

When WWII began in earnest, the SS-Verfügungstruppe (SS-VT) (SS Dispositional Troops) became the Waffen-SS ("Armed SS"), an official military branch of the SS organization. Its formations included men from NSDAP ruled Germany, along with volunteers and conscripts from both occupied and unoccupied lands.
