Original Item. Only One Available. This is a German WWII Waffen-SS sleeve shield intended for Danish volunteers serving in German Waffen-SS formations. Constructed on a black wool backing, the insignia displays the Danish Dannebrog: a white Scandinavian cross on a red field.

Danish volunteers began entering Waffen-SS service during the early years of the war. Scandinavian personnel served in SS-Regiment Nordland, while Frikorps Danmark was organized in 1941 following the German invasion of the Soviet Union. After the dissolution of the Freikorps in 1943, many surviving personnel were incorporated into SS-Panzergrenadier-Regiment 24 "Danmark," one of the principal infantry regiments of the newly organized 11. SS-Freiwilligen-Panzergrenadier-Division "Nordland."

This example is machine embroidered with a rich red field and prominent off-white Scandinavian cross, all surrounded by a broad black wool border. The red embroidery remains especially vivid. The lighter cross exhibits some toning and minor surface wear. The black backing remains well preserved, with the slightly irregular trimmed outline typical of individually cut cloth insignia.

This particular construction is commonly described in the collecting community as "Dachau made" or "Dachau depot" type. Large quantities of unfinished and unissued Waffen-SS uniforms and insignia were discovered in SS clothing facilities associated with Dachau in 1945, and Danish volunteer shields of essentially this form are documented among surviving depot-stock examples.
