Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very nice example of the distinctive Waffen-SS collar tab associated with Flemish volunteers of the 6. SS-Freiwilligen-Sturmbrigade “Langemarck”, later reorganized as the 27. SS-Freiwilligen-Grenadier-Division “Langemarck” (flämische Nr. 1). The tab features the characteristic three-armed Trifos emblem machine embroidered in silver-gray thread on a black wool base. These unit collar tabs (kragenspiegel) were worn on the right side of the collar, while the left side would have a rank collar tab.

The Trifos, sometimes described as a three-legged swas. or sunwheel-style device, became one of the identifying insignia associated with the Flemish Langemarck formation. The emblem was worn as a right collar patch by men of both the brigade and its later divisional successor. The Bundesarchiv records the formation of the SS-Sturmbrigade Langemarck from the Flemish Volunteer Legion in 1943, with the unit receiving the numbered designation 6. SS-Freiwilligen-Sturmbrigade later that year before its eventual expansion into the 27th SS Volunteer Grenadier Division during 1944.

This particular example has the construction normally associated with the later-war style of these tabs. The face is made from black wool badge cloth with the Trifos worked directly into the surface in light silver-gray machine embroidery. The embroidery remains quite distinct, with the unusual three-part design immediately recognizable.

The reverse is equally interesting from a collector standpoint. The black wool has been folded around a coarse tan lacquered buckram stiffener, which remains exposed in the center, and white machine stitching is visible around the perimeter. This combination is characteristic of the construction commonly referred to by collectors as the “Dachau-style” pattern.
