Original German WWII USGI Captured Normandy Camouflage Bring Back Box with Contents

Item Description

Original Item: One-of-a-kind set. Purchased directly from a WW2 veterans estate, this fantastic "bring back" set is filled with must of the original contents that Private First Class William Van Kerrebroeck (ASN 36485056) sent home to his family in Illinois during World War Two.

The box itself is a wonderful condition 10.5 cm schwere Kanone 18 ammunition box that is maker marked A. F. J. and dated 1935. It is painted in a wonderful Normandy Como motif and has white stencil that is partially concealed on this lid which we believe reads Kart. S. 10cm K.18. It also bears multiple original paper address labels which were stapled on during the war and read:

From: PFC William Van Kerrebroeck, 36485056
4171 Q.M. Depot CO. APO 350
C/O POSTMASTER NEW YORK, N.Y.

To: Miss Juliette Van Kerrebroeck
720 11th Street A
Moline, ILL.

The lid label bears original stamps and the Army inspection stamp with inspector's signature. The box measures approximately 19" x 13" x 7".

Most incredibly is the original content list which had been nailed down to the lid and reads:

1 German Canteen
1 Pr. gloves
1 canteen cup
2 whips
2 prs. spurs
1 belt
1 pr.
3 ?
1 souvenir flag
1 soap dish
1 prs. slipper
1 cross
1 lot misc. insignia
1 lots misc. postal cards

Inside the box are the following items:

- 2 German canteens both with wools covers and leather straps. One canteen has a bakelite cup and the other has a steel cup. Both are offered in excellent condition.

- Pair of leather and canvas sniper mittens (trigger finger is operate to the other four fingers).

- Pair of riding spurs.

- German Heer Army issue leather belt with steel buckle which is maker marked R. S. & S.

- Balkan Cross Tank Panzer Identification Flag that measures 78" x 38"

- Soap dish (damaged)

- Pair of women's leather clogs

- box full of postcards

- box full of insignia, badges and medals (see photos for details)

- Four packs of unopened German cigarettes (75+ years old and not for consumption!)

- Hand Held squeeze generator Stella brand flash light which is still functional

This is essentially a time capsule from around 1945 that has perhaps been untouched for more than 75 years. Incredible!
