Item Description
Original Item: One of a Kind. This is a great example of a USGI Bring back Third Reich helmet! This German M34 "Civic" issue helmet was intended for Police and Fire units, and shows the typical two perforated seven hole vents on both sides of the helmet, It has 4 split pins attaching a civic leather liner, with a perforated brow area and leather top pad. The helmet overall is in "battlefield pickup" condition, with the leather worn and deteriorated due to age and exposure. The exterior also shows paint loss and oxidation, which looks to have happened after it was captured and decorated.
We imagine it was probably displayed for a time and then put in an attic or garage, where it acquired the lovely patina it has. However it still clearly shows the numerous locations painted in white on the exterior:
Sicily
Tunisia
Algeria
French Morocco
England
Scotland
France
Belgium
Luxembourg
Germany
(Swas)
We have listed these in what we assume is the order that the soldier who brought this back visited these areas, so they participated in the North African and Sicilian Campaigns before being deployed to Northern France, where they took part in the invasion and defeat of Germany.
A really fantastic display piece that would be at home in any collection!
