Original German WWII Unissued Balkenkreuz (Beam Cross) Panzer Tank & Vehicle Identification Flag - 39" x 80"

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very good condition original German WWII Balkenkreuz (Beam Cross) identification flag used for Panzer tanks and other vehicles. It is in very good lightly condition and measures approximately 39" x 80" inches. Flag is constructed of cotton and has brass four grommets (one in each corner), which were used to secure the flag to the back of the vehicle, facing the sky in order to prevent friendly fire from German aircraft. The flag is a multi-piece construction with a Balkan cross on white background stitched onto the red base.

This example does not look to have been issued, and we can find no signs of it having been ever used on a vehicle, which would usually leave dirt and staining. However it does have some small holes and tears, which we assume are from storage. The red is still vibrant, and there is very little age toning to the white circle. The larger size would suggest a larger vehicle. Ready to display!

The Balkenkreuz (lit. "beam cross" or "bar cross") is a straight-armed cross that was first introduced in 1916-18 and later became the emblem of the Wehrmacht (German Armed Forces) and its branches from 1935 until the end of World War II. It was used by the Heer (Army), Luftwaffe (Air Force), and Kriegsmarine (Navy).
