Original Item. Only One Available. This is a very nice example of the scarce WWII T38 Bunker telephone. The set consists of the phone with the attached handset, and the battery pack, which is almost never present on these. The phone was used as a "bunker" phone. Not a field phone. The battery box supplied a 1.5 to 3 volt charge to the carbon microphone.
The data plate on the back of the phone reads:
Mix & Genest
Org 20206
03708-1940
(Waffenamt Eagle)
WaA618
This indicates 1940 manufacture by Mix & Genest. Mix & Genest was founded on 1 October 1879 by the businessman Wilhelm Mix and the engineer Werner Genest in Berlin-Schöneberg. The company was initially an 1879 branch of the ITT Corporation. It was very successful and became one of the pioneers in low voltage devices. Among the products were devices for telephony and telegraphy. By 1904 the company had already 2300 employees and subsidiaries in London and Amsterdam. In 1920 AEG bought the majority of the stock shares. Mix & Genest was acquired by the ITT Corporation in 1930. The name Mix & Genest was dropped in 1958.
The battery box can be unscrewed and opened to inspect the interior. The crank handle still works well and the cloth-covered cords all appear in good order.
A nice set, ready for further research and display!
