Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Stereoscopy is a technique for creating or enhancing the illusion of depth in an image by means of stereopsis for binocular vision. The word stereoscopy derives from Greek στερεός (stereos) 'firm, solid', and σκοπέω (skopeō) 'to look, to see'. Any stereoscopic image is called a stereogram. Originally, stereogram referred to a pair of stereo images which could be viewed using a stereoscope.
This book, as with most stereoscopic methods, presents two offset images separately to the left and right eye of the viewer. These two-dimensional images are then combined in the brain to give the perception of 3D depth. This technique is distinguished from 3D displays that display an image in three full dimensions, allowing the observer to increase information about the 3-dimensional objects being displayed by head and eye movements.
The book is complete with all 100 pictures and the stereogram viewing glasses. There are 80-pages in total in this 8 x 11-1/2 inch hardcover book published in Munich in 1940. This is the second volume in the two volume combat book set Die Soldaten des Führers im Felde (Soldiers of the Führer in the Field), with the subtitle II. Band: Der Kampf im Westen (The Battle in the West). The first volume was subtitled Polenfeldzug (Campaign in Poland).
The book was published by Raumbild-Verlag Otto Schönstein K.-G.. The 100 numbered stereo photos each measure 2-3/8 x 5 inches and have a full description of the subject printed on the back. When seen in the Raumbild-Verlag viewer, each picture appears as “3D”. Among the 100 three-dimensional views are photos of the Waffen-SS, Police, Wehrmacht dog handlers, carrier pigeon troops, assault boat teams, heavy flak batteries, field guns, Panzer troops, anti-tank units, bridge builders and engineers and many more.
Comes more than ready for viewing and display.
