This is an original German WWII SS Economic and Administrative Main Office Construction Group personnel sleeve diamond, known in German as a Gruppe Bauwesen Ärmelabzeichen. Lightly used and retaining strong visual definition, it features the distinctive Construction Group emblem of an eight pointed star above a pair of architectural dividers.

The device is machine embroidered in silver gray thread on a black wool diamond shaped backing. It measures 2" wide by 3" tall. The black wool shows light wear, while areas of staining are present on the silver gray embroidery. The protective coating applied to the reverse to help prevent fraying remains mostly intact.

This insignia identified specialist personnel assigned to the Gruppe Bauwesen, or Construction Group, within the SS-Wirtschafts-Verwaltungshauptamt, commonly abbreviated SS-WVHA. The organization was established in 1942 and combined a wide range of SS administrative, economic, supply, and construction responsibilities. Its construction departments employed or supervised architects, engineers, technicians, and other specialist personnel involved in planning and carrying out SS building projects.

Sleeve diamonds of this type were used to identify the wearer’s specialized organizational assignment. The eight pointed star was associated with administrative specialist insignia, while the architectural dividers specifically represented construction work. The diamond was worn on the lower left sleeve of the uniform.

With its clearly embroidered Construction Group device, mostly intact reverse coating, and appealing lightly used condition, this is an uncommon and highly recognizable example of specialized SS administrative insignia. It would display particularly well in an SS-WVHA, German WWII occupational insignia, specialist sleeve badge, or advanced uniform insignia collection.
