  • Original Item: One-of-a-kind. This is an incredible personal photo album from a member of the SS-Standarte Germania. Front cover features a silver embossed Zur Erinnerungen an Meine Dienstzeit bei der Standarte SS Germania (As a reminder of my service time with the Standard SS Germania) along with a set of runes.

This album is offered in very good to excellent condition. A total of 66 photographs fill this album, making it a treasure-trove of images taken from the viewpoint of a young, patriotic German SS soldier. Features multiple combat photos, SS helmets with clear decals, SS officers in uniform, Machine Guns, vehicles, artillery, Field Gear, M43 Caps with death head insignia, SS camouflage smocks, winter uniforms and so much more. Many of these photos would cost hundreds of dollars on their own!

Historical records like this album have become priceless time capsules that provide an incomparable level of insight into the individual experience of the Second World War, now that almost eighty years have passed.

The older albums such as these usually withstand the ravages of time. The leather or fabric covers may wear, but the pages stay well intact. The black paper albums of the early 20th century are more fragile, while the glue from magnetic albums can damage photographs. And, as with all old photographs, keep albums in a safe, climate controlled environment

The SS-Standarte Germania was formed in 1934 as SS-Standarte 3 / VT around a cadre from Politische Bereitschaft Hamburg (Politische Bereitschaft SS 2). It was soon renamed SS-Standarte 2 / VT when AH ordered that SS-Leibstandarte AH not would be included in the numbering sequence. It was renamed SS-Standarte Germania at the Parteitag in Nuremberg 1936 when it also received its Deutschland Erwache standard.

It took part in the annexation of Austria and was responsible for the security during the Italian leader Benito Mussolini's visit to Germany. It took part in the annexation of Sudetenland attached to army units. It later served as a guard regiment in Prague, as Wach-Regiment des Reichsprotektors von Böhmen und Mähren, until July 1939.

It took part in the invasion of Poland attached to 14. Armee and following that campaign it was used to form SS-Division Verfügungstruppe (later renamed Das Reich).
