Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. The SS (Schutzstaffel - 'Protection Squadron') was originally formed in 1925, ostensibly to act as a small, loyal bodyguard unit to protect the Führer, Adolf AH. Under the direction of the Reichsführer-SS Heinrich Himmler, the SS grew to be the most ruthless and feared organization of the 20th century. They were the vanguard of the NSDAP and eventually controlled nearly every function of German life and much of Occupied Europe.

This is a great single sided SS flag, which depicts the white Schutzstaffel ᛋᛋ doppelte Siegrune (Double Sig/Victory Rune) symbols, often called "Lightning Bolts" inside a white circle on a black field. The flag measures 35” x 37 1/2”, and the runes and circle are sewn onto a single side, while the reverse is blank. There is a short folded over header on one side, however there is no hanger sleeve or attachment hardware present, so this possibly was intended for indoor use, or would be attached to the outside of a building or something similar.

The flag definitely looks like it has been through a war, and shows wear from use and age. There are small holes and tears in the flag, particularly in parts of the white fabric, which also has age toned and stained to an almost beige color. This is a flag that looks like it was "really there", and would make a great addition to any German WWII Collection. This would be perfect to hang on the wall to use as a background to an SS dagger or other similar items. Ready to display!
