Original German WWII Soviet Russian Luftwaffe Recognition Model Airplanes by Wiking - Lot of 8

Original Items. Only One Lot Available. During World War Two there was a mass of teaching materials used by the armed forces to train gunners and aircrew in the identification of aircraft, ships and ground vehicles. The ability of servicemen to identify "friend or foe" in an instant was crucial to combat survival and the subject of recognition was taught in just about every World War II service school. Even Germany created models like these to aid in identification. “Recognition Models” (also known as “ID” or “spotter” models) were seen as critical to the war effort. Some were detailed for use in educational films or for marking identification.
This is a great lot of eight Wiking models of Soviet Russian planes made for recognition training. All eight are marked with R followed by a number. Thankfully we were able to find online what most of the numbers correspond to. They include:
- R1: PS-84 or Lisunov Li-2.
- R2: Ilyushin Il-2
- R3: Lavochkin-Gorbunov-Gudkov LaGG-3
- R4: Petlyakov Pe-2
- R5: DB-3F or Ilyushin DB-3
- R7: This is the only one we could not identify. It is the largest and may be the Bolkhovitinov DB-A.
- R9: Sukhoi Su-2
All are in fair condition without any serious damage. Each plane is marked with the WW logo of the German company Wiking who manufactured these. They vary in size from 1 1/4 x 1 3/4” to 4 ½ x 7 3/4”.
