Original Item. Only One Available. This cowhide-covered rucksack was known as the Fernsprechtornister 3. The Fernsprechtornister was made with a canvas or cowhide cover flap. Packs 1, 2 and 3 were issued to the the Kleinerfernsprechtrupp or small phone squads. The squad consisted of 4 men - a troop leader and 3 men with packs and associated equipment.
This example of a wartime signalman's pack number 3 comes complete with internal frame and exterior labeled #3. It retains 99% of the cowhide and the leather is in very good to excellent condition. It is nicely maker marked GEBRUDER KLINGE of DRESDEN and dated 1940.
A really nice example of an extremely hard to find backpack as used by German communication specialists during WW2.
