Original Item: One-of-a-kind Set. Here we have great set of documents from WWII Germany, when the NSDAP was in power. There are four lovely Tank and Armored vehicle identification documents, including charts, pamphlets, and other information, as well as two Civilian Identification books. During the period many new types of identification were required for civilians and military personnel, both as a method of control and to help protect vital parts of the German war machine. These books often recorded quite a bit about the owners life, much more than just their basic information. The military issued books in particulars also served as records of their service as well as pay books, so they were definitely important to keep safe.

This lovely set consists of the following items:

- Panzer-Erkennungstafel 1: Übersichtstafel der wichtigsten Panzerfahrzeuge in Sowjetrußland. This translates to Panzer Identification Board 1: Overview of the most important armored vehicles in Soviet Russia. This fold out pamphlet, dated 1. 7. 1944, shows the various Soviet-made tanks and armored vehicles used by the Red Army, as well as those supplied by the American and British allies. This pamphlet was specially designed to be used by tank observers to identify friend from foe.

Panzer-Erkennungstafel 2: Die sowjet-russische Panzerwaffe. This translates to Tank Identification Plate 2: The Soviet-Russian Armored Force. This is a much larger chart than plate 1, also dated 1. 7.1 944, and it gives far more detailed information on the armored vehicles, making it more of a technical reference than an identification guide.

- Panzer-Erkennungstafel 3: Gliederung und Kampfweise der sowjet-russischen Panzerwaffe. This translates to Panzer Identification Plate 3: Structure and Combat Method of the Soviet-Russian Armored Force. This fold out pamphlet, dated 1. 7. 1944, gives details on the combat tactics of the Soviet Russian tank force.

- Panzer-Erkennungstafel 4: Übersichtstafel der deutschen Panzerfahrzeuge. This translates to Panzer Identification Board 4: Panzer-Erkennungstafel 4: Overview of German armored vehicles. This fold out pamphlet, dated 1. 7. 1944, shows the various German tanks and armored vehicles. This pamphlet was specially designed to be used by tank observers to identify friend from foe.

- One German WWII Deutsches Reich Arbeitsbuch (German National Workbook), named to Elisabeth Lippe, as written on the first page and the rear cover. As indicated on page 5 the book was issued 3. 1. 36., and it is the early 1935 pattern book, with the old Weimar style national eagle design, though there are still swasses in the corners. These books grew out of a 1935 law requiring registration of work, and documentation of work history for German citizens-and only German citizens. Foreigners who worked in Germany carried an Arbeitsbuch für Ausländer which had a picture of the owner. The book has quite a few entries, and it looks like Lippe worked for Elektro-Apparate during the early war period.

- One German WWII Deutsches Reich Arbeitsbuch für Ausländer (German National Workbook for Foreigners), named on the back cover to what looks like Wera Bohonosowa. Page 8 indicates that the book was issued on 27. Oktober 1943. These books grew out of a 1935 law requiring registration of work, and documentation of work history for German citizens-and only German citizens, who were issued the Deutsches Reich Arbeitsbuch. Foreigners who worked in Germany carried an Arbeitsbuch für Ausländer which had a picture of the owner, however the picture page was torn out of this book. We can still see stains from the round rivets and stamps on page 3.

A great set of German WWII Tank and Personal Identification material, full of great translation and research possibilities!

Of note: some of the writing in this book is in Kurrentschrift, an older form of Germanic script writing, which is why the all the "u" letters are written as "ŭ". In this script the lowercase "n" and "u" are identical, so the latter gets the arc shaped mark over it. This is not indicative of an umlaut or other diacritical marking.
