Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nice service worn example of a German WWII Luftwaffe M38 Overseas cap (Schiffchen), as worn by Enlisted men and NCOs (EM-NCO). The overseas cap, nicknamed in German military slang as Schiffchen, or literally "little ship" as it resembled an up-turned row-boat, was standard issue for the Luftwaffe for most occasions.
The cap is constructed of a blue gray worsted wool exterior, and features a fine embroidered eagle and tri-color cockade sewn to the front. It features a faded blue cotton and rayon lining, which is still in very good shape.
This cap is in good condition, though it appears to have seen quite a bit of wear while in service. The exterior of these is usually "fuzzy", with a worsted "nap" on top of the weave, but this has been work away, except under the side flaps, under which the original color and texture is still present. There is also some light mothing in areas, but it definitely appears that most of the condition issues are simply from wear. One of the top stitches has been partly redone, and there are worn away areas around the edge.
A great service worn look that cannot be duplicated! Ready to display!
