Original German WWII Service Worn Heer Infantry Wool EM-NCO M38 Overseas Cap - Schiffchen

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice "salty" service worn example of a German WWII Heer Infantry EM-NCO M38 overseas cap (Schiffchen). The overseas cap, nicknamed in German military slang as Schiffchen, or literally "little ship" as it resembled an up-turned row-boat, was standard issue for all branches of the Heer.

This example is constructed of a field gray (feldgrau) wool exterior, with a tan cotton canvas lining. It features a fine machine embroidered eagle, with gray thread on a forest green base, the standard Heer colors during the mid war period. There is a very nice white V-shaped soutache, which is the Waffenfarbe (Corps Color) for for Infantry and Motorized Infantry. This looks to have been added after construction, as it does not go under the seams. Inside of this is a machine embroidered bullion National Tri-Color Cockade.

The inside of the cap has a nice condition lightweight canvas lining, however there are no markings visible at all. Size looks to be around a 56cm.

Condition of the cap shows that it was "really there", and probably was in service for years. The exterior is stained, with the white soutache now looking almost brown, and the other insignia worn and stained. The interior shows sweat and oil stains overall, giving it a look that is simply impossible to duplicate.

A very nice "Salty" M38 overseas cap, ready to add to your collection!
