  • Original Item: One of a Kind. Here we have a very interesting Pre-WWII era commemorative piece, which looks to be from rifle marksmanship training. It is a colorful paper target showing a British Mark IV Tank, which has been mounted to a 15 1/2" x 1 1/8" display board, which was then marked with information regarding when it was from, and presumably who the person in training was. This is listed around the perimeter, however some of the white painted writing has chipped away, so a few letters are unclear. As best we can tell, it reads:

Geg. v. H. Mart. Ortner sen.

    14.1.   1937

    Gew. v. H. Karl Kiendl

As best we can tell, it looks like H. Mart. Ortner Senior used a rifle owned by H. Karl Kiendl on 14 January 1937 for training, and the target is the result. All of the holes in the target then had the backing bored drilled, and wooden "bullets" inserted into them, giving it a great look. There are painted swas (hook cross) emblems on either side as well.

Condition is very good, with the colors well retained, and a lovely aged look to the front.  A great display piece worthy of further research!
