Item Description
Original Item. Only One Available. This is a great German propaganda poster encouraging men of industry and in the military to fight for their families who need Christmas gifts during 1943, one of the most decisive years of World War II. The poster measures 23" x 33”, and features a soldier in the field and an industrial worker in the factory in the background with several children’s toys in the foreground with the text:
Spielzeug Unseren Kindern Für Weihnachten 1943
Mit dem Spielzeugwerk dankt die H-Jugend der kämpfenden Front und der schaffenden Heimat
Which translates to:
Toys for Our Children for Christmas 1943
With the toy factory, the H-Youth thanks the fighting front and the creative homeland
The text in the bottom left reads
Schaukastendienst der Reichsjugendführung 11/43
Herausgegeben vom Presse- und Propaganda-Amt
C/2157 (Poster ID)
Which translates to:
Showcase service of the Reich Youth Leadership November 1943
Published by Press and Propaganda-Amt
The poster is in fair condition overall with heavy water damage on the front and back with multiple tape repairs on the back top and bottom. These repairs have worked well to keep the poster in one piece but there is a good amount of discoloration to the front as shown. There are some rips in the center including a small piece missing below the chicken toy. Still a fantastic poster that would do well with proper framing.
This is an extremely scarce WWII German propaganda poster, the first of its type we have seen, meant to tug at the heartstrings of parents across the country to fight harder for them. Comes ready for further research and display.
