Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is something that we have not seen before. Souvenirs are commonly brought back by soldiers stationed overseas, and WW2 Germany was no exception. With the start of the North Africa campaign in 1940, Germany formed the Deutsches Afrikakorps (DAK) to assist the Italians in their battle against the British starting in 1941.
This Belt is marked with the areas that the soldier was in during his service in Africa from 1941 to 1942:
DAK
1941
TRIPOLI
DERNA
BENGASI
TOBRUK
HALFAYA
SOLLUM
KAIRO
HELUAN
SUEZ
1942
33 inches in overall length, adjustable down to probably 31 inches. It is made of woven fabric that was originally a light blue color, though it has faded with age, and is hand-embroidered. Condition is good, though some of the embroidery has worn, and the leather is dry from age.
A totally unique and fascinating soldier's personal souvenir from the earliest days of Rommel's Deutsches Afrikakorps in Northern Africa. You'll never see one of these again!
