Original German WWII Private Purchase Metropolitan Police Shako by EREL with Silk Liner

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice 1936 Officers pattern Tschako, with the late pattern police green wool covered body and black leather trim. It has a very fine quality police officer eagle and black leather chinstrap. Sadly, the national color cockade is missing, with only the prongs in place. A great Polizei helmet (shako) as used by the metropolitan police! Unlike some of the more common ones found trimmed in brown for rural police, this one is with black trim for the municipal police.

The interior is in great shape, and unlike the standard issued versions, this one has a high quality liner, similar to those used on officer model helmets. The liner consists of a silk split type liner with a leather sweatband. We see no evidence that this is not original, and given that it was made by the famed EREL company, for a custom item, there is little that wasn't possible. There is no size marked, but it seems to be about a size 56cm / US 7.

The shako is maker on the inner dome top:

The mesh vents are in very good condition, and are the simple type without a slide closure. The exterior does show age and wear, particularly the black patent leather, which has had the finish degrade somewhat. The stitching on the front and rear visors is still nice and strong. The original chinstrap is still intact, and as expected is stiff due to age and drying out.

Overall it is offered in great display condition, from one of Germany's best manufacturers of the time! Ready to display!
