Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. Map cases were issued on a limited basis to specifically designated personnel such as unit commanders, pilots, and observers. This example looks to be privately purchased, and is of plastic, leather, and oil cloth construction. The case measures approximately 9"H x 6"W, with a plastic window on one side, with a red grid pattern. It is quite Spartan compared to officially issued cases, with no pockets for oil pencils, rulers, erasers, etc.
Contained inside is a very nice 1936 dated German Map of Saxony, specially the areas Chemnitz - Altenburg - Döbeln. The map is in good condition, but does show a lot of wear from folding, so it was definitely used extensively. There are markings added directly to the map, making this an excellent research opportunity.
