  • Original Item: One of a Kind. This is a very interesting hammered sheet brass serving tray, measuring approximately 12 inches by 8 inches. This was made by a German prisoner of war in France, and is marked on the back with the following inscription:

    SOVANIR
MADE BY GERMAN PRISONER OF WORR /
    MAILY LE CAMP FRANCE 1945

Mailly-le-Camp in North East France had been a German Panzer training center during the war, which was captured and most likely turned into a POW camp for German soldiers in France. The misspellings are as they were in the original inscription.

A lovely piece more than worth of further research.
