Original German WWII Political & Civil Organizations Belt Buckle Lot - 4 Buckles

Item Description

Original Items: Only One Lot of 4 Available. The belt buckle was an important part of the regalia worn by all uniformed military, civil, political and paramilitary organizations during the Third Reich. The belt was part of the uniform and would always be worn while on duty. The belt buckle was generally specific to each organization, with many organizations having separate belt buckles for officers and for enlisted personnel, sometimes with different colors and finishes to further denote specific purposes. The buckles were adorned with various mottos and designs specific to the organizations for which they were intended. Many designs used the German national eagle emblem, in a variety of forms. Belt buckles were worn with uniforms ranging from finely tailored officer parade uniforms, to the issued uniforms of enlisted soldiers in combat. Most German belt buckles of the Third Reich were made with two prongs on the reverse, to allow the buckle to be worn and adjusted on a belt and would have a catch on the other end of the belt for securing. The earliest Third Reich buckles were often made of brass or nickel silver. Later, aluminum became very common, and was used on private purchase as well as enlisted buckles of the German military, with or without a painted or plated finish. After the war began, most enlisted military buckles were steel.

Some types were made by the millions and remain quite common today. Others were made in limited numbers and are very rare.

The Buckles In This Lot:
- Nationalsozialische Betriebszellen Organization NSBO: The RBA, "Reichsbetriebszellenabteilung" (National-factory-cells-department), was founded in January of 1931 and was renamed the NSBO, "Nationalsozialische Betriebszellen Organization" (National-socialist Industrial-cells Organization), in March of that year. This organization acted as the NSDAP's alternative to labor unions and communist worker groups in industrial factories. Officially a national organization, the NSBO was concentrated in the heavy industrial centers, with very little representation outside these areas. The NSBO was absorbed into the DAF in October of 1934, and ceased to exist in March of 1935.

Slightly convex, stamped brass, two-piece construction buckle features a plain field upon which is a circular face plate featuring an embossed NSBO cog with a hammer and swas clenched in a fist. Oakleaf border with letters "N.S.B.O." on the cog wheel. The plate is attached by two soldered spots, visible to the reverse with a raised buckle catch. There was a threaded post soldered onto the reverse of the buckle for reasons unknown.

- 1933 Pattern Prussian State Forestry Officer: German State Forestry agencies were consolidated into the Reichsforstbeamte, (National Forestry Service), on April 22, 1938, and uniform regulations introduced the Official’s belt buckle to replace the assorted pattern belt buckles worn by official’s of the various state organizations. The new pattern buckle came in a burnished black finish for wear with the service uniform, natural aluminum for the parade and dress uniform and in a gilt finish for ranks of Oberlandesforstmeister and above. The natural aluminum buckles were worn on both a dark green leather and brocade belts. All National Forestry Service belts and buckles were discontinued in late 1943.

- Diplomatic Brocade Belt Buckle: The buckle is unmarked and in very good condition with much of the original finish still present.

- Reichsbahn Officer’s Buckle: After AH’s accession to power in 1933 he immediately began a restructuring of the national railway system and by early 1937 had succeeded in achieving a centralized efficient National Railway. With this restructuring new uniforms and insignia were introduced for railway personnel in 1933. Additional items of insignia were introduced and modified at various times throughout the war. The round buckle was Introduced in 1940 for wear by RBD officers. Buckle was worn on the black leather belt for service dress and the brocade belt for dress wear.

The gold washed buckle is in very good condition with much of the original wash still retained. The reverse is marked with DRGM and 40.

All items are in very nice condition and comes more than ready for further research and display!
