  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is a lovely example of 1930s-1940s Period dark gray leather overcoat, or greatcoat, as used by the officers in the German Wehrmacht, including the Kriegsmarine Navy, Heer Army, and Luftwaffe Air Force. With the dark blue gray color, it would not be preferred by members of the SS, who in general only used all black leather. This color would however be seen used by members of all three main Branches of the Wehrmacht, and without any insignia, it's not really possible to tell who used it.

The greatcoat has a heavy grade leather exterior with a charcoal gray brushed cotton lining, manufactured with excellent quality and offered in very good condition. The exterior features two vertical slash waist pockets, lined with soft cotton, and there is a detached securing strap from the jacket in the left pocket, which originally was attached to the back and went around the ring on the edge of the left front. There is a horizontal zipper pocket just inside the left chest, which has a zipper marked Elite. There are small fabric loops around the edge of the lining, where an insulated liner could have been attached when needed.

The style of manufacture is consistent with a genuine German Pre / Early WWII era private purchase uniform piece, and there is actually still a legible maker logo on the inner left, which reads: EIN Striwa FABRIKAT. Striwa is a known maker of great coats during this era, and we have seen similar examples before. A waist belt is the main means of securing the coat closed, and is secured with a large leather covered steel buckle. There are also some buttons around the collar area which could be used to more securely close that area.

Offered in very good condition with only light wear to the leather, this is an exceptional wartime coat that is an iconic piece synonymous with the German Officer of WWII. Ready to research and display!
