Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original German WWII NSDAP Political Leader Standard Bearer gorget manufactured by Frank & Reif of Stuttgart and marked RZM M1/102. It is a very clean mid-war example constructed from bronze and bronzed aluminum, with a large central NSDAP Reichsadler, overlapping oak leaf border, original green felt protective backing, and a complete 24 1/2" bronzed and gilt aluminum neck chain. Both the gorget and chain carry matching RZM M1/102 maker markings, giving the piece particularly strong collector appeal.
Gorgets originated as protective throat armor but later evolved into insignia identifying a wearer’s official function or authority. During the Third Reich period, a number of military, police, and political organizations used gorgets for ceremonial, guard, standard bearer, and other specialized duties. Within the NSDAP political organization, this type was associated with standard bearers and was intended to identify the individual carrying or attending the unit standard during formal gatherings and parade formations.
The main gorget plate is constructed from bronze and bronzed aluminum and features a large central NSDAP Reichsadler above a mobile swas. The outer edge is framed by an overlapping oak leaf motif. The finish remains very well preserved overall, with the bronzed and gilt tones still giving the piece strong contrast and visual depth.
The right chain clip is marked with the RZM insignia and:
M1/102
This code identifies Frank & Reif of Stuttgart. The reverse retains its original green felt protective liner, which remains relatively clean and unstained with only light wear and a few minor moth nips. The edges of the gorget show only modest handling wear. There is also a slight bend along the upper edge, but no major structural damage is present.
The original chain measures approximately 24 1/2" overall and is constructed from bronzed and gilt aluminum links. The alternating panels feature wreathed mobile swas motifs and stylized eagle designs. The reverse of both end panels is stamped with the RZM insignia and:
M1/102
confirming that the chain was also manufactured by Frank & Reif of Stuttgart.
Overall condition is very good, with the gold wash and bronzed finish particularly well retained. The matching maker marks on both the gorget and chain, complete felt backing, full original chain, clean surfaces, and strong finish make this a particularly attractive example. The slight upper-edge bend, minor edge wear, and small moth nips to the felt are fully disclosed.
With its matching Frank & Reif RZM M1/102 markings, complete 24 1/2" chain, central NSDAP eagle, oak leaf border, original green felt backing, and strong surviving bronzed and gilt finish, this is a desirable Political Leader Standard Bearer gorget. It would display especially well in an NSDAP political organization, standard bearer, RZM marked insignia, German WWII gorget, or advanced Third Reich collection.
The National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei , abbreviated NSDAP), commonly referred to in English as the NSDAP Party, was a far-right political party in Germany that was active between 1920 and 1945, that created and supported the ideology of National Socialism. Its precursor, the German Workers' Party (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei; DAP), existed from 1919 to 1920.
The NSDAP Party emerged from the German nationalist, racist and populist Freikorps paramilitary culture, which fought against the communist uprisings in post-World War I Germany. The party was created to draw workers away from communism and into völkisch nationalism. Initially, NSDAP political strategy focused on anti-big business, anti-bourgeois, and anti-capitalist rhetoric, although this was later downplayed to gain the support of business leaders, and in the 1930s the party's main focus shifted to anti-Semitic and anti-Marxist themes.
