This is a very nice WWII German National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei - NSDAP) First Pattern Flag Pole Finial or Topper (Fahnenstange Endstück). It is constructed of nickel plated steel, with machine cut emblem on top attached to drawn / stamped two part socket. This design is attached together, so parts could not be easily lost, and has small set hole on the side of the socket to attach it firmly to the pole.

The design is the standard NSDAP mobile/canted swas (hook cross) inside of a circle. It measures approximately 18 inches tall, and the top is 4 1/2 inches in diameter. There is some wear and oxidation to the plating, however no major flaking. Overall it is in very good condition, with no major deformation and just light scratches.

These Flag Pole Finials are extremely hard to find, as most were destroyed or melted back down as scrap. This is one in very nice condition, ready to add to any collection!

The NSDAP Party emerged from the German nationalist, racist and populist Freikorps paramilitary culture, which fought against the communist uprisings in post-World War I Germany. The party was created to draw workers away from communism and into völkisch nationalism. Initially, NSDAP political strategy focused on anti-big business, anti-bourgeois, and anti-capitalist rhetoric, although this was later downplayed to gain the support of business leaders, and in the 1930s the party's main focus shifted to anti-Semitic and anti-Marxist themes.
