Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice WWII German National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei - NSDAP) First Pattern Flag Pole Finial or Topper (Fahnenstange Endstück). It is constructed of nickel plated brass alloy, and is the early multi-part design. It includes the original pole top socket, which were often lost, as this design can be disassembled.
The design is the standard NSDAP "Spread Wing" Reichsadler (National Eagle), which looks to its left, and is perched on a wreath, with a mobile/canted Swas (swas) in the center. It measures 7 5/8 inches tall, and is 5 1/2 inches wide at the tips of the wings. There is definitely wear to the plating on the eagle, and the brass base metal can be seen. Also the original black paint that would have been on the swas has mostly flaked away.
These Flag Pole Finials are extremely hard to find, as most were destroyed or melted back down as scrap. This is one in very nice condition, ready to add to any collection!
The National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei , abbreviated NSDAP), commonly referred to in English as the NSDAP Party, was a far-right political party in Germany that was active between 1920 and 1945, that created and supported the ideology of National Socialism. Its precursor, the German Workers' Party (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei; DAP), existed from 1919 to 1920.
The NSDAP Party emerged from the German nationalist, racist and populist Freikorps paramilitary culture, which fought against the communist uprisings in post-World War I Germany. The party was created to draw workers away from communism and into völkisch nationalism. Initially, NSDAP political strategy focused on anti-big business, anti-bourgeois, and anti-capitalist rhetoric, although this was later downplayed to gain the support of business leaders, and in the 1930s the party's main focus shifted to anti-Semitic and anti-Marxist themes.
