Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice WWII German National Socialist German Workers' Party (Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei - NSDAP) First Pattern Flag Pole Finial or Topper (Fahnenstange Endstück). It is constructed of a single piece of cast and possibly machined brass. The single piece design means that parts could never be lost, and it small set hole on the side of the socket to attach it firmly to the pole.
The design is the standard NSDAP mobile/canted swas (hook cross), which is more simple than many examples we have seen, but is unmistakably for the NSDAP. It measures approximately 7 1/2 inches tall, and the top is 5 5/8 inches across. There is some wear and oxidation, which has given it a lovely lightly oxidized patina. Overall it is in very good condition, with no major deformation and just light scratches. The side of the socket by the securing hole is stamped GES. GESCH., indicating it is a trademarked design "protected by law".
These Flag Pole Finials are extremely hard to find, as most were destroyed or melted back down as scrap, especially ones made from brass. This is one in very nice condition, ready to add to any collection!
The National Socialist German Workers' Party (German: Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei , abbreviated NSDAP), commonly referred to in English as the NSDAP Party, was a far-right political party in Germany that was active between 1920 and 1945, that created and supported the ideology of National Socialism. Its precursor, the German Workers' Party (Deutsche Arbeiterpartei; DAP), existed from 1919 to 1920.
The NSDAP Party emerged from the German nationalist, racist and populist Freikorps paramilitary culture, which fought against the communist uprisings in post-World War I Germany. The party was created to draw workers away from communism and into völkisch nationalism. Initially, NSDAP political strategy focused on anti-big business, anti-bourgeois, and anti-capitalist rhetoric, although this was later downplayed to gain the support of business leaders, and in the 1930s the party's main focus shifted to anti-Semitic and anti-Marxist themes.
