Original Item: Only One Set Available. This is an original German WWII NSDAP national banner flag measuring approximately 55" in hoist by 102" in fly, accompanied by a postwar black and white photograph showing six men displaying what appears to be the same flag at a Kiwanis Club gathering. The flag is of printed single sided construction, apparently cotton, with a white canvas hoist header containing a halyard rope, wooden toggle, and reinforced corners.
The flag measures approximately:
55" hoist x 102" fly
The design is printed on a red field with a large white central disc and black swas emblem. The flag is single sided and appears to be made from cotton fabric.
A white canvas header runs along the hoist and encloses the halyard rope. At the upper end is a loop secured around a wooden toggle, while the lower end retains an approximately 42" length of halyard for attachment. Reinforcement is present around the corners, consistent with a flag intended to withstand repeated hanging and outdoor use.
The colors remain very well retained overall. The white central area shows light age toning, and there is scattered staining across the fabric, but no major holes, tears, or other structural damage are noted.
Included with the flag is an approximately 6 3/4" x 5" black and white photograph showing six men holding a large NSDAP flag at what appears to be a Kiwanis Club gathering. Two of the men are wearing military garrison caps. The photograph appears to date from approximately the 1960s or 1970s.
There are no written markings on the flag or photograph directly identifying the individuals, documenting the date or location, or proving the flag’s wartime capture history. However, the flag pictured in the photograph appears to share the same wooden toggle at the upper hoist and long halyard at the lower end as the flag included here. The photograph was acquired together with the flag and forms part of its associated provenance.
Overall condition is very good, with strong color retention and no major structural damage. The principal condition points are light age toning to the white field and scattered staining. The accompanying photograph shows expected age and handling wear consistent with an older print.
With its large 55" x 102" format, complete hoist header, wooden toggle, long halyard, reinforced construction, and associated postwar Kiwanis Club photograph, this is an interesting German WWII political banner with a documented postwar history of display. The exact wartime bring back history is not independently proven, but the photograph remains a notable piece of associated provenance. It would fit especially well in a German WWII flag, political textile, veteran souvenir, or wartime home front collection.
The NSDAP, Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, (National Socialist German Worker’s Party), was originally founded in Munich as the DAP, Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, (German Worker’s Party), on January 5TH 1919. When Adolf AH joined the DAP in the autumn of 1919 he was to reform what was basically a debating society into an active political party. Appointed as the first chairman of the party on July 29TH 1921 AH was to restructure it along para-military lines in a hierarchy of four levels of government.
