The NSDAP, Nationalsozialistische Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, (National Socialist German Worker’s Party), was originally founded in Munich as the DAP, Deutsche Arbeiterpartei, (German Worker’s Party), on January 5TH 1919. When Adolf AH joined the DAP in the autumn of 1919 he was to reform what was basically a debating society into an active political party. Appointed as the first chairman of the party on July 29TH 1921 AH was to restructure it along para-military lines in a hierarchy of four levels of government. Later, he was appointed Chancellor of Germany by president Paul von Hindenburg in 1933, and rapidly established a totalitarian regime known as the Third Reich.

One of the NSDAP's early goals was to annex territories lost in WWI with majority German populations back into Germany, along with any other territories that had large German populations, such as the so-called "Sudetenland". To show support of this Heim Ins Reich (Home in the Empire) movement the party had enamel pins such as this made, which are very similar to the NSDAP membership pins.

It is a 24mm diameter, die struck brass alloy badge with multi-colored enamel work. The badge features a black, circular outer border script, HEIM INS REICH, encompassing a white enamel field with canted translucent red enamel Swas (Hook Cross) with a pebbled background In very good condition, these were originally silver plated, however only a little of that remains on the back, with the rest worn to the brass base metal. There is the maker initials J.B. on the bottom, which could be one of several makers. The back has a very nice functional "safety pin" style attachment, which would work on any type of clothing.
