Original Item: One of a Kind. When we first received this lovely fringed standard flag in, we assumed it was an SA Sturmfahne (Storm flag), but we quickly realized that the unit markings were definitely not the SA type. This flag was actually used by an organization that most have probably never heard of, the Nationalsozialistischen Handwerks-, Handels- und Gewerbeorganisationen (National Socialist Handicraft, Commercial, and Business Organization), usually shortened to NS-HAGO. This organization, formed in 1933, was a union for the industrial middle class, promoting small-scale and self-employed trade and craftsmen. It was later put under DAF supervision in 1934, and absorbed outright in 1935, though the name may have continued to be used for several years afterwards.

That means that this flag is definitely from the early NSDAP period, and it has black unit marking rectangles in the cantons by the header, which have silver tresse borders. Both sides have the same chain stitched text:

The front side reads:

This means the flag is for the NS-HAGO organization for the Local Group in Mühldorf, Germany. This town is located in Bavaria, relatively close to the border with Austria. Definitely a very interesting flag, of a type that we haven't even been able to find!

In form, it does look very much like it was made using a standard German WWII Sturmabteilung (Storm Division) Political "Storm Flag" or Banner (Sturmfahne). It measures 47" x 54", and the hanger side has remnants of the seven fabric loops that originally have held metal hanger rings to attach the flag to a pole. It is in very good shape, showing some staining and age toning, as well as some small tears and holes. There is not any major damage, and the fringe around the edge is well preserved.
