Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice custom made example of a German WWII Era Naval Fringed Banner for Wassersport (Water Sport) Harbors, measuring a very displayable 25" x 19 1/2", not counting the fringe. It is made of sturdy dyed cotton, most likely with an additional piece of fabric inside to to make it heavier so that it hangs better. The usual design for these flags and banners has an all black anchor, however this was custom made for the harbor, so the design was made a bit more eye catching.
The top of the banner has three hanger rings on sturdy fabric loops, probably to allow the flag to hang on the inside or outside of the harbor house. It is in very good condition, with the colors well retained, however the front side definitely does show some color toning and fading, especially when compared with the reverse.
A very attractive an interesting German Naval banner from the WWII period, ready to research and display!
The Water Sports Vessel flag was introduced on April 6th 1936 and was mandatory to be flown from all vessels of the Navy Regatta Association, (Marine-Regattaverein), and all Kriegsmarine owned yachts and sailing vessels. The Water Sports Vessel flag was utilized for the duration of the war.
