Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nice "salty" service used Genuine WWII German Kriegsmarine sailor's Tellermütze (Flat Cap), usually referred to as a Donald Duck hat. This basic design was popular worldwide, and used by many countries. These caps were worn by all Junior NCO's and enlisted men. It is made of Dark navy blue wool, and is fitted with a black silk cap tally machine embroidered with the title Kriegsmarine in brass bullion thread. The tally is affixed by braided thread in three places (left, right, and rear), as is standard. The front of the cap bears a gold national eagle insignia on the top, over a metal tri-color cockade with a felt insert over the ribbon.

The interior is complete with the original brown finished leather sweatband that is in good shape, showing moderate wear from service, and does not have any tears we can see. The black fiber / cardboard stiffener band under the liner is still present, but it has degraded, with many tears / cracks, which are present all the way around the circumference. The interior is lined with blue rayon, which looks almost black on the interior center due to sweat and oils. We can see that there was originally a diamond shaped "sweat shield" on the top, which is now completely missing. The blue rayon on the sides of the cap has mostly torn away from the stiffener, so the felt padding can be seen in places. The size is small, probably around a 55-56 cm, or U.S. 6 7/8 - 7.

Condition overall shows that it saw long use in service, which has given it a great "salty" look. There are some small tears and holes in the shell, and the tally, while full length, does have some holes and tears as well. There is also soiling and staining on the exterior shell, as there is on the interior.
