Original Item: Only One Available. This is a nice lightly used Genuine WWII German Kriegsmarine sailor's Tellermütze (Flat Cap), usually referred to as a Donald Duck hat. This basic design was popular worldwide, and used by many countries. These caps were worn by all Junior NCO's and enlisted men. It is made of Dark navy blue wool, and is fitted with a black silk cap tally machine embroidered with the title Kriegsmarine in oxidized bullion thread. The tally is affixed by braided thread in two places, as is standard. The front of the cap bears a national eagle stick pin insignia composed of faded brass over a metal tri-color cockade with a felt insert over the ribbon.
The interior is complete with the original gray finished leather sweatband that is in good shape, showing moderate wear from service and what looks like possibly some abrasions from use on a mannequin. The cardboard stiffener band under the liner is still solid and in good shape, without any major bends or other damage. The interior is lined with black rayon, and there are no markings on the interior, except for a faded maker marking on the sweatband. The cap is relatively large in size, probably a 58-59cm, or U.S. 7 1/4 - 7 5/8.
This style of cap does not have a removable crown, however it does come with a very nice white canvas cover, used when the white uniforms were needed. This way the sailor did not need to buy two completely different caps. The cover is in very good condition, showing some lovely age toning.
Overall the cap is in very good cosmetic condition, with little sign of moth or other wear issues. The tally is in very good condition, and still looks to be full length.
