Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent condition example of a German WWII Heer Panzer Armored Trooper EM-NCO M38 overseas cap (Schiffchen). The overseas cap, nicknamed in German military slang as Schiffchen, or literally "little ship" as it resembled an up-turned row-boat, was standard issue for all branches of the Heer.
This example is constructed of a a field gray (feldgrau) wool exterior, with a gray cotton lining. It features a fine machine embroidered eagle, with gray thread on a field gray base, the standard Heer colors early in the war. There is a very nice rosa (rose-pink) V-shaped soutache, which is the Waffenfarbe (Corps Color) for the Panzertruppen (Armored Forces), as well as Kraftfahrkampftruppe - Kraftfahrtruppen (Motor Vehicle Combat Troops). The stitches of the bottom go over the soutache ends, which indicates it was sewn in before the cap was finished. Inside of this is a machine embroidered bullion National Tri-Color Cockade.
The gray canvas cap interior lining shows very little wear, and has the complete maker information stamped on it: Schrodeter & Co. / Berlin next to the date of manufacture, 1938. Under this is the size 58, and there is even a small sewn in name label reading Jünger. Fully marked AND named, this cap really has it all!
Condition of this cap is very good, with just a few small blemishes and light overall wear. The colors are retained quite well, and this is definitely a very attractive and colorful overseas cap. Ready to add to your collection!
