Original Item: One-Of-A-Kind. The Ehren-Chronik “Honor-Chronicle” was a photo album intended for members of the German Military for war related photos, keepsakes, documents etc. This is not just a photo album but a heavily illustrated remembrance book for those who completed their time of active duty for Germany during WWII. The Ehren-Chronik was published by order of the NSKOV (Nationalsozialistische Kriegsopferversorgung), the Third Reich organization which took care of the veterans. The album measures about 12”H x 9"W, and has a 1939 Iron cross on the front cover, over the Gebirgsjäger (mountain troops) Edelweiß emblem.
This album consists of 148 personal photographs that belonged to Unteroffizier Josef Bielmeier, a soldier in the Wehrmacht. The photographs are from when he ended his service with NSDAP Diesdorf on June 23, 1944. We believe that Josef Bielmeier was killed in action later that year in 1944, but the records are unclear.
The first sections of the album show pictures of AH, HG and other leaders of Germany during WWII. The book then goes on to give descriptions of certain individuals and locations. Those pages are commercially printed and widely available photographs during that time and are not personal photographs taken by Josef. The book also has pictures of German awards and badges as well as their names and a description for each one. The 148 personal photographs vary in size and location. Some pictures are graphic and may not be suitable for individuals under the age of 18. Some pictures have writing on the back of them, but they are all secured to their respective pages and we do not want to remove them. The back of the book has pages Josef filled out which appears to be some kind of family register with birthdays and locations. Also included, which was original to the album, are a few loose death/remembrance cards which were probably friends and comrades of Josef. Very few soldiers received their book of honor.
The pages are in great condition and some have browned a little due to age. This is a wonderful example of a WWII German Honor Chronicle named to a proud soldier who served in the Heer during WWII.
