  • Original Item: Only One Available. Fitted with a single-edged spear point blade, this is an original German WWII Nahkampfmesser close fighting knife, with what may be a WWI Era scabbard. This basic design was used by Imperial German in WWI, and was popular during WWII as well. Many WWI knives were even reissued for WWII, however this definitely is a WWII production example.

In very good lightly used condition, this knife has smooth wooden grip scales secured by three rivets. Grip scales are in very good condition, with no cracks or major chips, and a nice color, however each has an inlaid HJ National Youth Organization emblem. Judging from the relatively sloppy work around the insignia, this was a field modification, possibly by a "graduated" HJ member, or also possibly by a USGI when they wanted to bring back the knife. There is unfortunately no way to be sure. Both insignia are in very good condition, with complete enamel and most of the plating worn away.

The blade is full length on the bottom of the blade, while the top has a false edge. It shows very little use presently, though it is possible that the entire blade was resurfaced at some point. There is no true "cutting edge" added, so it may have been a captured arsenal spare, and is still shows original factory polishing. Overall length is now 10 3/8 inches with a 5 7/8 inch blade. No markings are present whatsoever.

The knife comes in an genuine rolled steel WWI style scabbard with a leather belt loop and securing strap with a functional snap. The finish on the scabbard is very good, with just a bit of crazing and wear, without any major dents. There are some scratches and scrapes on both sides of the scabbard, but they do not detract from the overall look.

No identifiable markings markings but 100% original, a very interesting example for display in any quality German edged weapons collection.
