Original German WWII MG 34 Preßstoff & Leather Gunners Kit Tool Pouch by Curt Vogel K.G. with Bolt, A.A. Sight, Tools, & More

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a fantastic MG 34 gunners tool pouch, made from Preßstoff (Press Material) faux leather with real leather fittings such as the belt loops, closure strap, and hinge. It is maker marked fuq 1945 on the underside of the lid, indicating 1945 production by Cottbusser Lederwarenwerk Curt Vogel K.G. of Cotbuss, Germany. The kit still contains the lion's share of the original components, and definitely looks to have seen real service during the war, unlike many that we see.

The pouch still has a functional leather closure strap, belt loops, and D ring on the rear. It shows wear from service, and the interior is stained from contact with the tools and components carried inside. It still has the original compartments and clips, and is one of the most complete sets we have seen in some time.

With the pouch are the following original WWII Issue items, which fit neatly inside, with the mitt outside:

- One MG 34 Bolt Assembly, which is covered with inspection markings. These included many German WWII Waffenamt markings, so this is definitely WWII production. It does look to be missing one of the components on the bolt head, and one of the rollers is is not fixed securely.
- One MG 34 Ruptured Shell Extractor, marked gng for manufacture by Auer-Gesellschaft A.-G., Werk Guben.
- One MG 34 Anti-Aircraft Spider Sight, in excellent condition.
- One MG 34 / 42 Metal Oiler, painted panzergrau.
- One MG 34 Spanner / Extractor Tool.
- SIX MG 34 Cloth Muzzle Cover
- One MG 34 Barrel Mitt for changing barrels, which were very hot. It is marked hab 1943 on the strap.

Many of these would later be modified for use with the MG 42, but this definitely appears to be in the original MG 34 configuration, complete with all the usual components, and even a spare bolt, which is usually not included.

A great set, ready to display along with your MG 34!

Presstoff (also Preßstoff or Pressstoff) is the German-language term for a type of ersatz or artificial leather used during the first half of the 20th century. Made of specially layered and treated paper pulp, Presstoff was durable and easily adapted to be used in place of leather, which under wartime conditions was rationed. First invented in the 19th century, it gained its widest use in Germany during the Second World War.

Presstoff use included but was not limited to binoculars cases and straps, horse tack, bayonet frogs, equipment belts, cap visors etc. In short, Presstoff could be used in almost every application normally filled by leather, excepting items like footwear that were repeatedly subjected to flex wear and/or moisture. Under these conditions Presstoff tended to delaminate and lose cohesion.
