Original German WWII Metropolitan Police Short Dress Bayonet by Militärwarenhaus Dürbeck with Frog & Troddel

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is an excellent condition Metropolitan Police Short Dress "Walking Out" Bayonet by Militärwarenhaus Hans Dürbeck of Vienna. A beautiful piece that comes complete with a scabbard, black patent leather frog, and correct Police "troddel" sword knot. It features a beautiful Stag Handle, with an inlaid aluminum Civic Police emblem. The pommel is a solid alloy embossed "Birds Head" without a bayonet slot, which looks fantastic

The bayonet has a lovely approximately 27 cm (10.63 inches) long nickel plated steel blade, one of the few "short" pattern examples that we have had. The Blade is nice and bright, of excellent quality, and still has over 90+% of the original nickel plating, with a slight area of wear to the tip. It also does not have the fuller run off the front of the blade, as usually seen on the "long" pattern.

The blade ricasso is marked by the retailer with:

MILITÄRWARENHAUS
DÜRBECK
WIEN IX

There is not much out there on this maker, except that the complete name is Militärwarenhaus (Military Warehouse) Hans Dürbeck, a military outfitter located in Vienna, Austria. This means that the bayonet was made after the annexation of Austria in 1939. Like most military outfitters they would contract out work, so there is not any way to tell which company actually produced the blade.

The leather buffer washer is present. The bayonet grip scales are made of stag-horn with an aluminum police insignia firmly inset on one side. These are held between the upswept cross guard decorated with oak leaves, and the stylized eagle’s head pommel. Both cross guard and eagle’s head are well detailed and in very good condition, with almost all of the original nickel plating present.

The scabbard is made of fine black leather, fitted with nickel plated steel, and is in very good condition. The leather does show some age, but no major finish loss, and the original stitching is still intact. It is held in the correct black patent leather frog, which is in good condition showing some cracking in the finish due to age. Wrapped around the frog is a police troddel knot with a fabric strap that is still in excellent condition. It has rows of red and silver bullion, and the green and silver end ball has a green insert. This is the typical color we see on metropolitan police bayonets.

This is a wonderful short metropolitan police bayonet & scabbard, complete with a frog and troddel knot! Ready to display!
