Original German WWII Metropolitan Police Shako by Hans Römer with Leather Chinstrap - Size 57 ½

Item Description

Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice 1936 Officers pattern Tschako, with the late pattern police green wool body and black leather trim. It has a very fine quality police officer eagle with a simulated wire aluminum Feldzeichen cockade on the front (often missing) and black leather chinstrap around the "pickelhaube" style lugs. Higher ranks would have a scaled chin strap. A great Polizei helmet (shako) as used by the metropolitan police, unlike some of the more common ones found trimmed in brown for rural police, this one is with black trim for the municipal police.

Interior is in very good condition, with a supple leather liner that shows moderate wear and use. It is not the usual style we see in Römer shakos, and it does not have any "Fingers" on the top, so it may have been a custom order. There is a small size 57 ½ size marking at the very rear, and the top of the cap still shows the original maker decal on the top of the crown:

HANS RÖMER
Echt
Fiber-Tschako

Neu-Ulm (Donau)

The vents are present and in good condition, with the left side sliding cover intact and movable, while the right side cover is missing. The field green felt exterior is in great shape, and doesn't look to have had any moth damage or major wear during service. The leather trim is in good shape, with a nice lightly worn look, showing some checking and "melting in the black leather finish due to age. There are also some dents around the leather cover on the crown. The chin strap is still supple, but does show some cracking in the finish and wear to the buckles.

Overall it is offered in very good condition from one of Germany's best manufactures of the time. Ready to display!
