  • Original Items. Only One Pair Available. This is a very good service worn pair of German WWII Luftwaffe electrically heated flying boots manufactured under the same RBNr. code associated with Paul Hoffmann & Co. Each boot combines a black leather foot section with a white suede shaft, fleece lining, Ri-Ri bakelite zipper, functional buckles and snaps, electrical heating connector, and black rubber sole. One white suede shaft has a large tear extending through to the interior, but this is the only major defect.

These 24-volt electrically heated boots were designed for Luftwaffe aircrew operating at high altitude and in cold weather. Heating elements were enclosed within the foot sections and connected to the aircraft’s electrical system through compatible wiring incorporated into the flying suit or trousers.

Each boot retains the standard male press-stud electrical connector near the top of the shaft. These fittings attached to corresponding female connectors on the electrically heated flight clothing. The boots follow the general configuration of the Luftwaffe single zipper flying boot but incorporate electrical heating elements in the foot sections.

The foot portions are constructed from black leather, while the shafts are made from white suede. The relatively simple panel arrangement, zinc plated steel buckles, and bakelite zippers are consistent with wartime construction.

Each boot has a label under the zipper with each having the same RBNr number. That makes this a great matching set. One label reads:

    RBNr. 0/0344/0005
    29 3 44

    And the other reads:

    RBNr. 0/0344/0005
    29 5 45

The RBNr code 0/0344/0005 is a match for Paul Hoffman & Co., who was a well-known manufacturer of these Luftwaffe heated flight boots. We have had several examples from before the RBNr system that showed his name.

The original Ri-Ri bakelite zippers are in great functional condition. The snaps and buckles are excellent and perfectly functional. The white suede construction has a large tear one on boot that has broken through to the interior. It is a serious condition issue and should be considered when handling the boots, but it is the only major damage.

The fleece lining is in great shape on both boots without any serious loss. The black rubber soles feature a Coat of Arms logo over ORIGINAL WILOP. There are no sizes marked, however the soles are both about 12 ¼ inches long.

The matching RBNr. code, white suede and black leather construction, retained electrical connectors, Ri-Ri bakelite zippers, fleece linings, and WILOP soles preserve the principal features of these Luftwaffe heated flight boots. The substantial wear and major torn shaft are important condition factors, but this set would display well in any German WWII Collection.
