Original German WWII M38 Luftwaffe Fallschirmjäger Paratrooper Helmet with Replica Chinstrap - ET66
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a very nice example of a service worn German M38 Fallschirmjäger helmet. The exterior shell retains a good deal of the original dark green/blue, rough texture combat finish. It does however show quite a bit of wear to the finish, with scrapes, chips, as well as small dents. The steel is visible in places, but it has that battlefield patina that simply cannot be duplicated.
The side of the interior shell is stamped ET66 and the rear of the skirt is stamped with the steel lot number 176. All paratrooper helmets were produced by Eisenhuttenwerke AG of Thale Harz, Germany. This example is a shell size 66 and was produced some time in 1940 - 1942.
The interior still features the vented leather liner, however it definitely does show significant wear and use. The entire assembly is attached to the shell via four correct wartime aluminum original bolts. The leather has degraded in areas, and has repaired tears in places, as shown in the pictures. This required removal of the liner, so while we believe the liner is original to this shell, it has been removed at least once. Seen between the liner band the liner itself are the complete seven charcoal foam pads. The top padding is also fully intact, though it is a bit stiff.
The original chin harness must have been destroyed or lost at some point, and has been replaced by a modern replica, in the correct blue color. This was replaced when the liner was removed for repair.
German Paratrooper helmets are highly desirable, and they are rare on the market in any condition. This is a nice honest service worn helmet, with a replica chin strap added for display. This would be a great way to fill that hole in your German helmet collection. Ready to display!
