Original Item: Only One Available. This is a genuine steel construction M34 "Square Dip" Third Reich helmet, outfitted for German WW2 Ordnungspolizei civic order police issue. Features genuine double decals of Civic Police eagle and NSDAP shield. Comes with a complete leather liner with its original, rubber construction chinstrap, and the 4 original liner attachment hollow rivets are present along with their cork spacers. The exterior retains about 75% of the original satin black paint, with some scuffs and chips through to the steel, particularly on the crown, which is flattened just a bit. Both decals are retained at over 95%, showing some scratches with some nice age discoloration and light wear consistent with age. The interior has retained the black paint to a lesser degree, showing some missing paint and oxidation, particularly on the inside of the dome under the liner. The shell was manufactured without provision for a top comb or attachment points for one, a configuration consistent with its Ordnungspolizei issue.

The helmet is equipped with a WWII civic type nine finger liner, which has perforations through the leather in the forehead area, though the top tie string is missing. The leather is still supple, but there is some dry rot on the surface and splitting over the rim. It is constructed with a fiber band with foam rubber padding under the forehead area, while the balance is felt padded. It still retains the five tabs for the attachment of a neck shield, though they show some tearing. The original chinstrap is present and fully intact, made from rubber or rubberized canvas. It is still supple and fully functional, with no cracking, tears, or other damage.

Exterior wear includes scattered scuffs, paint loss, and slight flattening of the crown, while the interior shows additional finish loss and oxidation beneath the liner. The liner remains supple overall but has surface dry rot, splitting along the rim, a missing top tie, and some tearing to the neck-shield tabs. Despite these condition issues, the helmet remains a substantially complete Ordnungspolizei example with particularly strong decal retention and a cohesive period appearance.

The Ordnungspolizei, abbreviated Orpo, meaning "Order Police", were the uniformed police force in NSDAP Germany from 1936 to 1945. The Orpo organization was absorbed into the NSDAP monopoly on power after regional police jurisdiction was removed in favor of the central N government ("Reich-ification", Verreichlichung, of the police). The Orpo was controlled, nominally by the Interior Ministry but its executive functions rested with the leadership of the SS until the end of World War II. Owing to their green uniforms, Orpo were also referred to as Grüne Polizei (green police). The force was first established as a centralized organization uniting the municipal, city, and rural uniformed police that had been organized on a state-by-state basis.

The Ordnungspolizei encompassed virtually all of NSDAP Germany's law-enforcement and emergency response organizations, including fire brigades, coast guard, and civil defense. In the prewar period, Heinrich Himmler, head of the SS, and Kurt Daluege, chief of the Order Police, cooperated in transforming the police force of the Weimar Republic into militarized formations ready to serve the regime's aims of conquest and racial annihilation. Police troops were first formed into battalion-sized formations for the invasion of Poland, where they were deployed for security and policing purposes, also taking part in executions and mass deportations. During World War II, the force had the task of policing the civilian population of the occupied and colonized countries beginning in spring 1940.
