Original Item. Only One Available. This is an original German WWII Model 1924 Stielhandgranate, commonly known as the M24 stick grenade, preserved in heavily worn relic condition. The grenade retains its metal warhead, wooden handle, and threaded bottom cap, together with small traces of its original green paint over red primer. Extensive oxidation, deformation, and surface loss reflect prolonged exposure and age.

This grenade is completely inert and has been demilitarized in accordance with current ATF guidelines. It contains no explosive material, cannot function as originally designed, and cannot be converted into an explosive device. It is not available for export.

The metal warhead has been demilitarized. It remains threaded to the wooden handle and can still be unscrewed, although the threads are heavily oxidized. Great care should be taken if separating the head from the handle. Forcing the components could damage the weakened threads, wooden shaft, or oxidized metal.

Small areas of the original green exterior paint remain visible over a red primer coat. The original front stencil has been completely lost. No maker’s marking, factory code, or date is now visible on the warhead.

The wooden handle is heavily worn, scuffed, and deformed. Any original printed or stamped markings have been erased by surface loss and prolonged wear. The threaded metal end cap remains present. It is heavily corroded but can still be screwed and unscrewed.

The cap and surrounding wooden handle should be handled carefully, as the oxidized metal and deformed wood may be structurally fragile.

The Model 1924 was developed during the Weimar period from the earlier German stick grenades used during WWI. Its wooden handle gave the thrower additional leverage and made the grenade one of the most recognizable German infantry weapons of the 20th century.

Unlike many contemporary defensive fragmentation grenades, the standard M24 relied primarily upon blast effect. German forces later developed fragmentation sleeves and bundled charges to extend its effectiveness against personnel, field positions, and other targets.

The standard M24 used a friction ignition system housed within the handle. A removable cap at the base protected the internal pull arrangement. The warhead was normally marked with a reminder instructing the user to insert the detonator before use, although that stencil is no longer visible on this example.

During transportation, M24 grenades and their components were commonly packed in purpose-built carrying cases or crates. Detonators were often stored separately as a safety precaution and installed when the grenades were prepared for issue.

The M24 remained one of the principal German hand grenades throughout WWII. It was carried by infantry and other formations on all fronts and was employed against personnel, trenches, field shelters, and defensive positions.

This example has the heavily oxidized and worn appearance associated with a battlefield recovered or long-exposed relic, but no recovery location or accompanying provenance is available to confirm where it was found.

The surviving green paint, red primer, removable warhead, deformed wooden handle, and retained threaded end cap preserve the basic profile of the M24 despite the extensive deterioration. Its lack of visible markings limits precise factory identification, while the heavy oxidation and damaged threads require cautious handling.
