  • Original Item. One-of-a-Kind. This is a fantastic example of an extremely rare and period original painted M38 Gas Mask canister, as used by German troops during the various campaigns of WWII. This example has remnants of a gorgeous green/yellow camouflage paint scheme, which was typical for troops stationed in Normandy, France, but was also used in other regions. The paint is retaiend roughly 40% retained.

The carry case is a Long Model 1938 Wehrmacht type, which was introduced to house the stiffer M38 gas masks. It has the original metal inner sleeve, but not the Reinigungslappen (Cleaning Rag) , only the Lappenhalter (Rag Holder) spring is still present. The can is in very good original condition, and does appear to have had at least 1 field repaint done which is obvious as it’s now green. The spare lens insert compartment still has the original retaining spring but no filter.

A very nice camouflage-painted canister, ready for further research and display.
