Original German WWII M-31 Aluminum Mess Tin Decorated by German P.O.W. Nikolaus Werth

Item Description

Original Item: One of a Kind. This is an absolutely original German WWII issue Aluminum Mess Tin, complete with its lid that doubles as a dish. The Top has been painted green, and the front is inscribed with the owner's Name, Date and Military Location:

NIKOLAUS WERTH surrounded by ERINERUNG LAGER LAMBACH and Date 26.5.45 indicating that he was by then a Prisoner of War.

This translates to Camp Lambach Memorial May 26th 1945. Camp Lambach was a German POW camp located in Austria, which was administered by U.S. forces after the German Surrender on May 8th 1945. There are also engraved Oak leaves with acorns towards the bottom of the tin, which have been enhanced by paint.

The mess kit is in excellent shape comes complete with its lid that is secured by a fold out handle allowing the lid to be a dish or a skillet in which to cook in over an open fire. Comes complete with it's original folding Carry handle.
