Item Description
Original Item: Only One Available. This is a great set of German WWII Luftwaffe Officer's breeches, sometimes called 'Jodhpurs' or 'riding pants'. They were meant to wear with the officer's tall jackboots, and have an unmistakable silhouette. This set is made from lovely fliegerblau (flyer's blue) fabric, and show top quality bespoke construction. They are maker marked on the right inside by C. Louis Weber and look to have a 79 1/2 75 side marking, which we assume would be the waist and inseam. This is a known maker of Luftwaffe uniforms located in Hannover, Germany.
They have a button fly front closure with four buttons, and two "hook and bar" fasteners at the top. There are belt loops around the top, and several buttons, as well as some elastic adjustments on the sides, which can be attached to the buttons. These were designed to be very tight fitting, and would most likely not have required suspenders of any type. There are two button closed diagonal slash pockets on front, with button closed horizontal slash pockets on both sides of the rear. The bottoms of the legs have button closures, so that the feet could fit through easier before the bottoms would be buttoned up and tall boots worn.
Condition is very good, showing very little damage or wear of any kind. These would be perfect to pair with a nice form-fitted officer's tunic! Ready to display!
The Luftwaffe, the air force of the German military during the Third Reich, was established in 1935. Over the next 10 years, Luftwaffe troops wore a huge variety of uniforms. Enlisted men generally wore uniforms issued from military depots. Most enlisted soldiers had wool trousers and a short jacket with two internal lower pockets, called a Fliegerbluse, as well as a dressier 4-pocket tunic, the Tuchrock. Officers wore the same general uniform styles, but as officers had to supply their own uniforms, they usually wore tailor made versions. There were also myriad varieties of specialized uniforms worn by certain units or in specific situations, from the tuxedo-style “gala” formal wear uniform of the pre-war period, to the plain coveralls worn by crews of anti-aircraft cannons. There were work uniforms, tropical and summer uniforms, and camouflage clothing for airborne troops and other Luftwaffe soldiers in ground combat. Flight crews had their own specialized gear, including leather jackets and warm, electrically heated suits. Most but not all Luftwaffe uniform jackets bore the Luftwaffe emblem of a flying eagle holding a swas.
