  • Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original German WWII Luftwaffe Sanitätstruppe Medical Corps enlisted two pocket Fliegerbluse service tunic in very good honest used condition. It retains its medical blue branch insignia, enlisted rank insignia for Gefreiter, NCO aspirant shoulder strap loops, EM/NCO breast eagle, and Luftwaffe medical personnel trade badge.

The tunic is constructed from blue gray wool and retains its original color very well. The front uses a concealed four button closure with light blue Bakelite buttons, all of which remain present and securely attached. A smaller fifth button is fitted for closing the upper front of the collar, together with a hook and loop fastener. The two hip pockets have forward edge curved flaps secured by blue pebbled magnetic buttons. Above the right breast is a silver gray machine embroidered EM/NCO Luftwaffe eagle, correctly sewn through the outer layer of the tunic fabric and remaining in very good condition.

The attached collar tabs are in Medizinblau, or Medical Blue, the Luftwaffe Waffenfarbe associated with the Sanitätstruppe. Each collar tab carries two metal gull wing rank devices, identifying the enlisted rank of Gefreiter. The button attached shoulder straps have matching Medical Blue piping and are of the standard enlisted pattern. Each carries a loop of silver Tresse, indicating that the wearer was an Unteroffizieranwärter, or NCO aspirant. The left sleeve carries a single Tresse rank chevron, confirming the Gefreiter rank. Positioned below it is a Luftwaffe Sanitätspersonal Tätigkeitsabzeichen, or medical personnel trade badge, further identifying the wearer's service in the Medical Corps.

The interior is partially lined in gray blue rayon, which shows age toning and service wear but no major repairs or large tears. Button secured inner chest pockets are present on both sides, together with the usual bandage pocket on the lower right interior. Internal straps for belt hooks remain in place, though the hooks themselves are not installed. An internal rear adjustment belt is also present for regulating the fit of the tunic. Faint markings are visible on the exterior of the inner left chest pocket, but they are too indistinct to read with confidence.

Overall condition is very good, with no significant moth damage or major structural problems described. The wool shows honest service wear, including light pilling and localized loss of the original fuzzy nap, most noticeably around the collar where wear would naturally be expected.

With its Medical Blue Waffenfarbe, complete Gefreiter collar and sleeve rank insignia, NCO aspirant shoulder strap Tresse, original EM/NCO breast eagle, medical personnel trade badge, concealed button front, and well preserved blue gray wool body, this is a particularly appealing Luftwaffe Medical Corps enlisted tunic. The light pilling, localized nap wear, aged lining, absent belt hooks, and unreadable interior markings are all fully disclosed. It would display especially well in a Luftwaffe Medical Corps, enlisted rank, NCO aspirant, medical trade badge, or advanced German WWII uniform collection.

The Luftwaffe, the air force of the German military during the Third Reich, was established in 1935. Over the next 10 years, Luftwaffe troops wore a huge variety of uniforms. Enlisted men generally wore uniforms issued from military depots. Most enlisted soldiers had wool trousers and a short jacket with two internal lower pockets, called a Fliegerbluse, as well as a dressier 4-pocket tunic, the Tuchrock. Officers wore the same general uniform styles, but as officers had to supply their own uniforms, they usually wore tailor made versions. There were also myriad varieties of specialized uniforms worn by certain units or in specific situations, from the tuxedo-style “gala” formal wear uniform of the pre-war period, to the plain coveralls worn by crews of anti-aircraft cannons. There were work uniforms, tropical and summer uniforms, and camouflage clothing for airborne troops and other Luftwaffe soldiers in ground combat. Flight crews had their own specialized gear, including leather jackets and warm, electrically heated suits. Most but not all Luftwaffe uniform jackets bore the Luftwaffe emblem of a flying eagle holding a swas.
