This is a very nice German WWII Luftwaffe LKp S101 summer flying helmet, retaining its communications equipment, throat-microphone assembly, and a set of period German flying goggles. The LKp S101 was the lightweight cloth version of the Luftwaffe's 101-series radio-equipped flying headgear. This example retains its original interior production label, marked Siemens and naming Luftfahrtgerätewerk Hakenfelde GmbH as the supplier.

The interior label remains quite legible and is marked:

The helmet is size 57. The LKp S101, equipment number 124-436 B, and Ln 26617 markings identify it as the summer version of the Luftwaffe's LKp 101 series. The S101 was constructed from lightweight brown cloth with a smooth satin-type lining, in contrast to the heavier winter LKp W101. The 101 series incorporated improved communications fittings and sound insulation around the receivers and was intended for Luftwaffe aircrew serving in aircraft equipped with radio communications equipment.

This example retains the characteristic dark brown leather-covered receiver housings with their fleece-lined interior cushions, together with the wiring and throat-microphone harness. The separate throat assembly carries two oval laryngophone elements designed to rest against the wearer's throat. At least one is clearly marked:

The communications cable is also present and terminates in its original ribbed black four-pole break coupling plug, clearly marked BLKv Fl. 27560. The Fl. 27560 was a quick-disconnect coupling used with Luftwaffe radio communications cables, including those fitted to flying helmets. The plug remains intact with its molded body and securing hardware present, making the communications equipment notably complete from the helmet receivers and throat microphones through to the terminal coupling.

The tan cloth exterior shows expected age toning, staining, and handling wear, with similar signs of age and use to the dark interior lining. The fleece ear cushions remain present, while the leather receiver covers, straps, buckles, microphone harness, communications cable, and plug show normal age-related wear. The original interior label is still present and remains largely readable, an important feature for positively identifying the helmet's model, size, and supplier.

Also included is a pair of period German flying goggles with large teardrop-shaped lenses, individual padded eye surrounds, metal lens frames, and a broad tan elasticized head strap. Their construction is consistent with the German Model 306 type, although without readable maker markings or an intact original nose bridge, an exact manufacturer or variant cannot be confirmed.

The goggles remain in good overall condition. The lenses are intact and remain clear, with scattered surface marks consistent with age and use, and the elasticized head strap is also intact. The rubberized eye surrounds show considerably more age, with noticeable dryness and deterioration. The original adjustable nose bridge is no longer present or complete, and the two eyepieces are currently joined by a small piece of cord, representing an old repair or alteration of unknown date.
