Original Item: Only One Available. This is an original German WWII Luftwaffe Legion Condor cuff title measuring approximately 18 3/4" long by 1 1/4" wide. It is constructed from dark blue wool with the words Legion Condor embroidered in silver gray Gothic script and shows no visible evidence of ever having been sewn to a uniform.

The Condor Legion, known in German as the Legion Condor, was composed of German Luftwaffe and Army personnel who served alongside Nationalist forces during the Spanish Civil War from 1936 to 1939. The formation included aviation, antiaircraft, communications, armored, and support elements.

The unit became closely associated with the development and combat use of air power during the conflict. Its best-known and most controversial operation was the bombing of Guernica in April 1937. Luftwaffe General Hugo Sperrle commanded the principal aviation formation, while Wilhelm Ritter von Thoma led the armored ground contingent.

The Luftwaffe Legion Condor Ärmelstreifen, or cuff title, was instituted on June 12, 1939, under Luftwaffen-Verordnungsblatt regulations. It commemorated service connected with the Condor Legion and was authorized for personnel of designated Luftwaffe formations carrying on its traditions, including Kampfgeschwader 53, Flak-Regiment 9, and Luftnachrichten-Regiment 3.

The cuff title was worn on the lower right sleeve. The same general pattern was used by officers and enlisted personnel.

The lettering is embroidered in silver gray thread across the dark blue wool field. The wool folds over onto the reverse and covers nearly the entire back. The longitudinal edges are secured with stitching. A separate piece of black cloth is positioned behind the embroidered inscription to protect and stabilize the stitching.

The cuff title appears never to have been installed on a uniform. No obvious stitch holes, removed mounting threads, or folded attachment edges are described. Overall condition is excellent. The dark blue wool and silver gray embroidery remain well preserved, with only light storage wear. A few small areas of moth tracking or nap loss are present in the wool, but there is no major fraying, tearing, staining, or loss to the embroidered lettering.

With its desirable Legion Condor inscription, dark blue wool construction, silver gray Gothic lettering, full 18 3/4" length, protected reverse embroidery, and apparently unissued condition, this is an attractive example of a Luftwaffe tradition cuff title. The light storage wear and small areas of moth damage are fully disclosed. It would display particularly well in a Luftwaffe insignia, Condor Legion, Spanish Civil War, German aviation, or advanced WWII cloth collection.
